Aadhaar is a 12-digit identity number issued out to all residents of India based on their biometric information and location. The Unique Identification Authority of India or UIDAI was made responsible for updating the Aadhaar status on each Indian citizen.
To encourage people, to go out and get registered for their Aadhaar status the UIDAI launched the AadharStars promotional campaign. This interactive campaign asked residents to record small video clips of their children appealing to the masses to get enrolled for their Aadhaar status. The videos highlighted the importance and benefits of Aadhaar in an attempt to create awareness and educate the general populace.
AadharStars campaign was held on the official Facebook page of UIDAI as a social media campaign. UIDAI received many entries from around the country. The selection committee is now in the shortlisting phase of the competition as they are going through all entries sent and narrowing it down to the winners. A list of the winners will be uploaded on the UIDAI Facebook page and the families will be contacted through phone or email latest by 15th May.
The rules of the contest allowed for only one video entry per child and a parent could send separate entries for each of their children. The AadhaarStarts campaign was announced on 8th April and ended on 30th April running for almost a month inviting citizens from all over to send in their submissions.
If the child is shortlisted as the winner then the prize money will only be transferred to bank accounts linked to the Aadhar status. If someone has not yet linked their bank account to their Aadhaar status then they should do so immediately. The bank will facilitate all applicants through this process.
The 20 winners of the contest will receive cash prizes of Rupees 5000 each and 50 runner-ups will be awarded 1000 rupees for their efforts. The money can be transferred to the Aadhaar bank account of any family member of the child.
Winners will be announced by 15th May and all of them will receive some sort of notification of their winning through call or mail. The shortlisted entries will be asked to submit their bank account details in order to receive payment.
Aadhaar status has the largest enrollment of any biometric system worldwide. The government aims to create a unified database of all citizens through this initiative by getting all individuals above the age of 18 to enroll. The program will be used for attendance systems in government offices as well as for the newly proposed scheme of unemployment benefits paid out to the jobless part of the population.
